Writing a good SLA takes not only time but practice. It often requires a multi-disciplinary approach involving technology, financial analysis, negotiation, and contract drafting skills.

That is a challenge. I always assume that something will go wrong and try to figure out first how to prevent it, and second, if something does go wrong, how I can fix it? I once had someone suggest that a contract had too many SLAs to monitor and that it would take too long to review the reports each month. The project managers need to spend time building the relationship and making sure that they address issues together to the benefit of both organizations.
